Do Chiropractors Cause Strokes?

Quote of the Month

“How you do anything, is how you do everything.”

This has shown up for me so many times in, not only this month, but my entire life.

I remember the first time I heard this saying, something just clicked. It correlates so well with the Aristotle quote on excellence being a habit.

I have spent the past month refining my systems in order to increase efficiency. As I was going through the process, I thought to myself, more than a few times, that I could shortcut this or that and not worry about it until it pops up. As I had this thought, I came back to the above quote.

Even the most mundane tasks in life are important. If we are capable of maintaining intent and focus on the tasks that seem “unimportant," then nothing will stop us from achieving our goals.

Life is all about momentum. Every time we go all in, we roll the momentum in favor of our achievements. When we give less than the effort we are capable of, and is necessary for each event, we tell life that it is OK to slack off.

We walk a very slight edge (great book by the way), and it is just as easy to do the small things as it is to skip them. Be mindful of your actions and watch how all the small things add up to the largest of achievements.

Study of the Month:

Science Says Chiropractic Care Does Not Cause Stroke

OK, so you've probably heard, by now, about a relatively isolated incident in which a person had a stroke shortly after a Chiropractic Adjustment.

Now, let's forget for a moment that there are literally millions of spinal adjustments each day throughout the world.

In other words, let's forget that such odds, if ever validated, remain far, far, far less than your chances of, say, dying in a car crash.

Let's forget all that for a moment.

Let's also forgive the family of the aforementioned soul for lashing out at Chiropractic care in their quest for answers. Grief's a tough nut, and everyone deals with it in their own unique way. No doubt, grief can be truly debilitating for some.

So, we can forgive them.

Instead, let's focus on the truth.

What is the truth? goes something like this:

There's no evidence to support the claim that Chiropractic care causes strokes.

Now, you don't have to take my word for it. I'm just some guy penning an article, right?

And, in reality, I'm a biased soul; I love Chiropractic care. I can't imagine a life without it. While I don't have much physical pain in my life, I have noticed dozens of positive side effects with my weekly care. Everything from less mental fog, a deepening of my spiritual practices, and an overall boost in energy.

And I savor the feeling of a quality adjustment.

Therefore, I Love the stuff.

And I'm biased.

But science isn't.

So, let's take a look at the empirical data, shall we?

How about a brand new study, one that appears in the Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Disease?

In the study, Canadian researchers compiled meta-data---that is, they gathered all the studies they could find on the subject. They did so for a nine-year period. Researchers compared more than 15,000 cases. Each individual had been admitted to a hospital, at some point, with a carotid artery stroke. The research team examined data from chiropractic sessions 1, 3, 7, and 14 days prior to such strokes.

The research team's conclusion?

"We found no excess risk of carotid artery stroke after Chiropractic care. Associations between Chiropractic and Primary Care Physician visits and stroke were similar and likely due to patients with early dissection-related symptoms seeking care prior to developing their strokes."

What's this statement actually mean?

It's scientist speak for, "There's absolutely no evidence that Chiropractic care causes strokes."

Wow, huh?

A team of reputable researchers, publishing in a journal all about strokes...

Finds not one shred of evidence to support the claim that Chiropractic care causes strokes.

Time to put away the fear and offer your Chiropractor a big hug. He/she's helping you heal...

If you only allow him/her to do so. :)

Bringing it all Together:

So, what does this mean, and why should you care?

There are thousands of people out there who are living in a sub-optimum expression because they are afraid of an adjustment.

That is a fear based mindset, and I, for one, prefer to lean through fear, into Love.

Who do you know that is suffering right now and can benefit from Chiropractic care?

I don’t just mean here in Kansas City. As much as I Love taking care of people in my office, I am a huge advocate for Chiropractic care in general.

Part of my mission is to create a shift in the understanding of health care, grounded in the principle that the power that made the body, heals the body.

Would I love for you to refer some of your local friends, family, and colleagues to me? Absolutely!

Do you know what I would love just as much? If everyone around the world discovered the safe and effective ways Chiropractic can make a positive impact on their life and the life of their family.

I am only one person, and I could use the help spreading the message!

If how we do anything is how we do everything, I challenge you to be present, intentional, and Loving in all you do this month.

With Love and Appreciation,

Dr. D
